How thick is the ice in a standard ice hockey rink?

The ice in a standard hockey rink is typically only about an inch thick.

This make sense when you think about it. Being thicker just makes it harder to keep cool. And the thing doing the cooling is all the way at the bottom of the ice (and that cooler is below freezing, so cools better than ice does).
