Being a placekicker is American football is adaptable for soccer players. The most difficult part of kicking a soccer ball versus kicking in football is the foot skill required to accurately strike through the ball. Seasoned soccer players know how to strike the ball to get lift, curvature, force and sometimes finesse. They have also typically focused on leg strength and other accuracy in other facets of the game too.
While it is not an automatic transition, soccer players are at least halfway there. Kickoffs are a kin to taking goal kicks in soccer. You are looking for distance, placement, and getting air under the ball. Goalkeepers are natural at punting - it is not uncommon to see a good goalkeeper routinely launch 70+ yard punts with a level of accuracy. Placekicking can be a little trickier since in soccer you are usually trying to keep it under the crossbar, not over it. However, as a soccer player, you learn the body mechanics you need to generation lift on the ball. Taking an indirect free kick also mimics the pressure of a field block team. I would say scoring on an indirect is even harder since you cannot simply go over the rush...
In short, a goalkeeper or set piece specialist in soccer is capable of making the trasition. However, it takes time to master, like anything else. There are nuances to kicking in football, but it is not something that cannot be learned and practiced.
